Decimal fraction<\/strong>\u00a0is a\u00a0fraction\u00a0whose denominator is 10 or a multiple of 10 like 100, 1,000, 10,000, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Decimals can also be used to write numbers between any two whole numbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Example<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While measuring the length of a table with a metre scale, the length may not be a whole number, it may lie between two graduations on the metre scale. In such situations, the decimal numbers are used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the conservation of units we know<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1 km = 1000 m<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1 m = 100 cm<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1 cm = 10 mm<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, let the length of the tabletop be 2 m and 75 cm, and then it can be represented as <\/p>\n\n\n\n
