Summary

number is a mathematical object used to count, measure, and label. 

Examples are the natural numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 etc.

4 Digit Number

4 digit number

There are four digits in a four-digit number. According to their values, the digits are placed from right to left at one’s place, ten’s place, hundred’s place, and thousand’s place.

Example

1234

4 is in Unit place

3 is in ten’s place

2 is in Hundred’s place

1 is in thousandPlace

And it is read as One thousand two hundred and thirty four.

How to find a Succeeding number

To get the succeeding number of a given number, add ‘1’ to it)

Example: The Succeeding number of 6+1 is 7.

Preceding: A Preceding is one which a number comes before a number.

Middle Number: is a number which come in the middle between the two number.

Example: The number between 4 and 6 is 5 so 5 is called the middle number.

Expanded form of numbers

Example:

In expanded form we write using numbers as follows

 2 × 1000 + 4 × 100 + 9 × 10 + 6 × 1

∴ 2496 = 2000 + 400 + 90 + 6.

Place value – Face value

Place value is the value of each digit in a number.

Face value represents the actual value of a digit.

Example 1

4378 Face value is 3     place value is 3 x 100 =300
